But finding someone who will actually make a machine that won’t fall apart after six months of working in your production is a more serious task. Many people immediately go to Alibaba, search by price, and then for two years they puzzle over why the rings are moving in waves or the hydraulics are leaking. I went through this myself.
When I first started looking for equipment to expand the workshop, I thought: the main thing is specifications and price. I found several factories, they sent me beautiful catalogs, everything seemed to be in accordance with GOST or close. One even promised to adapt the drawings to our workpieces. As a result, the mill arrived, was assembled, and the rolling accuracy was within half a millimeter, which is like death for aircraft rings. I know of a case where, due to a breakdown of a pressure sensor, the entire workshop was idle for three weeks - they were waiting for a specialist from China, because local mechanics did not dare to interfere with an unfamiliar hydraulic circuit.

But for critical rings, where the accuracy of diameter and profile is important, a European or Japanese control system is better. Check this out right away. When you start discussing a contract, be prepared for the fact that Chinese partners often agree to anything just to sign. Your task is to make sure that all your requirements are clearly stated. Be sure to include in the contract the stage of acceptance testing (FAT - Factory Acceptance Test) on the territory of the manufacturer. You arrive, the mill is assembled, test pieces are rolled (preferably yours, sent in advance), and all parameters are measured. Only after signing the FAT act is the machine prepared for shipment. This protects against a situation where cargo arrives at you, which, in principle, cannot fulfill your task.
And one more thing - training. The contract should stipulate that 1-2 of your technologists and mechanics are trained at the factory in China (all inclusive) or that the supplier’s engineers conduct training at your place after installation. Without this, your people will master expensive equipment at random.
Now the mill is installed, launched, and working. The most dangerous time is the first six months to a year. Those parts that you saved on, or that simply turned out to be a weak link in the specific conditions of your production (dust, temperature changes, work intensity) fail.
Negotiate the terms of the warranty and the supply of spare parts in advance. Ideally, if the supplier has a warehouse of the most consumables (seals, sensors, bearings) in your region.
